Visa for Short-Term Visit (Schengen Visa)
Important Note: The time required to process Short-Term Schengen Visa Applications
of Sri Lankan and Maldivian passport holders is a minimum of 3 working days at the
Embassy (Saturdays and Sundays not included). Waiting and processing times for
Schengen Visas will be considerable longer in the summer months due to much higher
demand for visas. Therefore applicants are advised to plan in advance and take
the appointment as soon as possible. A visa can be applied for up to three months
before the start of the intend trip.
For Transit Visas, a minimum of 2 working days are required.
Parties to the Schengen Agreement are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia,
France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg,
Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
Applicants wishing to travel to the Schengen States (including on business and tourist visas)
may apply for a visa valid for all the Schengen states for a period of up to 90 days.
The visa application is to be submitted to the Embassy of the country where the main
purpose of the visit lies (usually the country where the maximum duration of the applicant’s stay lies);
if the main destination cannot be determined, the country of the first port of entry.
The following mandatory regulations apply to all applications for visas to
visit Germany.
A. Visa Application
1.Visa applications must be made on the latest form, to be provided free of cost
at the time of collection the appointment receipt, by the German Embassy in
Colombo or downloaded by clicking here.
Proper photocopies will be accepted.
2. Applications must be filled out the forms in English or German language and
in legible handwriting or typed by any person, but must be signed by the
applicant himself / herself.
3. All columns in the application form must be filled in. Please enter N/A in
the space provided if particular column/s is/are not applicable in your case.
4. The passport must be valid for a further 3 months after the expiry of the
granted Visa.
B. Photograph
1. Please submit 2 recent and identical passport size coloured photographs with
a white background. Photographs should not have any stapler pin marks
disfiguring the face or background.
2. Photographs submitted must measure 3.5 cms x 4.5 cms with the head, full
face centered in the frame.
3. The proportion of the head in the photograph must be 2/3rd of the size of
the complete photograph.
4. Only one photograph should be attached to the application, the other should
be kept in the passport. Neither should have any stapler pin marks disfiguring
the face or background.

D. Personal appearance
A visa is not a guarantee to access to the Schengen territories. The final
authorisation remains within the competence of the immigration officials at the
respective borders. The purpose of the visit may not be altered once the visa
has been issued.
General Information
Children accompanying parents, irrespective of their age, should fill in
separate application forms when applying for their visas even if they are
included in the parents passports.
Passport collection time: Mondays to Thursdays 2.00 p.m. Please check the
visa immediately upon receipt. Complains received there after unfortunately
cannot be considered.
